Staff feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing appreciation for the product’ s comfort, versatility and ease of use. In addition, 91 % reported that there was minimal to no leakage. 2
One nurse commented on the ability to shape Versette into three distinct ways to meet different body shapes:“ From my observation, I think that product is lifechanging for so many of our patients, especially the male patients with retractable anatomy.” 2
Katz shared the response from a bariatric patient during the trial period:“ He said he was dry, he was comfortable and he felt that he finally had some dignity.”
“ We deployed a lot of resources to help them achieve their goals,” Beigie says, adding that the support is especially helpful for external catheters.“ They’ re a very clinical device and need a lot of support for a successful conversion and implementation.”
Supporting the transition with education and trust“ The thing that took us over that finish line to get that great feedback was that we were able to provide them excellent product support information at the bedside,” Beigie notes. With the overwhelmingly positive feedback— and leadership on board— the next phase was to convert the whole system to Versette.
It started with meetings with stakeholders related to Versette, including infection prevention, nursing leadership, materials management and wound care.“ We went over their questions and made sure we worked through any issues they had,” Strazdon says. Together, the team also put together an SBAR and dates for each educational session. Overall, the education and communication were central to the success of the transition.
Before, during and after implementation, the multilayered strategy included:
• In-person training
• Road show-style informational booths
• Virtual Q & A sessions
• Just-in-time education
• Biweekly office hours for ongoing support
• Decision trees
• Post go-live education
Ensuring every staff member knew about the transition was important.“ Nurses need the information, they need to know the conversion is coming,” Peterson explains.“ To help, we created precommunication that it was coming, so that they knew when the education was happening and when they were going to see the product on the shelf.”
Another way they did this was road-show style. Katz and the Medline team visited all seven inpatient campuses in the system over a seven-day period.“ We sat outside the

cafeterias and talked to the nurses to say,‘ Hey, this product is coming. What are your questions? Let us know.’ And we would sit there and just talk to people and let them touch and feel the product before it was live,” Strazdon describes.
In addition, nurse leaders discussed the transition at every huddle the week before implementation. During conversion week, the Medline team was on site with hands-on classes. Then just-in-time education, including bedside product support troubleshooting, helped give staff confidence that they’ d have support through the transition.
There was a learning curve involved that the Medline and YNHHS team worked through together. For instance, Peterson says some nurses noted that Versette seemed rough, but they just needed some re-education on the different ways to form Versette to meet the needs of different body types.
Clinical and cost benefits Versette addressed issues such as skin irritation and leakage. It also eliminated the need for additional pads to hold the previous product in place, contributing to cost savings.“ We’ re going to save money not only with changing the product to a better one, but also using less of those pads,” Matarazzo-Joy says.
Katz sat with the wound care nurses to get their concerns or comments on Versette, and they didn’ t have any.“ Staff will express their dissatisfaction with a product through various channels, but I haven’ t received any communication along those lines,” Katz says.“ Any
