As I reflect on the very first issue of SCO magazine that was published in 2020, I am reminded of the letter titled " Day One in the New World." It captured the essence of the challenging environment we were navigating during the pandemic, and set the tone for our mission: to provide solid and insightful information to supply chain professionals in the healthcare space.
Five years later, our commitment to that mission remains unwavering. This new issue looks ahead to the future, examining how supply chains continue to evolve by embracing lessons learned and adopting new strategies. Our goal is to share these insights that may lead to more robust and resilient healthcare systems, so we’ re all better prepared for whatever the future holds.
We hope you enjoy this latest issue and find it both informative and inspiring.

Ever since the pandemic,“ resiliency” might be one of the most oft-used words in supply chain, but resiliency isn’ t something that is only limited to supply chain. We may not say the word in our day-to-day lives, but we all work to be more resilient every day. Maybe it’ s keeping a little extra money in a savings account, or making sure we’ re scheduling those dental cleanings or annual physicals. Or it’ s having a backup plan if we’ re running late from work and our kids need to be picked up. In other words, it’ s the little things that require us to be very intentional.
It ' s not so different for the supply chain. Whether it’ s massive weather events, the global disruptions of war and conflict, or the way technology continually changes how we experience the world, it’ s the little changes we make today that continue to build resiliency for Medline and our healthcare partners now and well into the future.
The keys to keeping our healthcare supply chain resilient through an uncertain future can be found throughout this issue, and through the hard work that supply chain leaders at healthcare systems are already doing throughout the country. Whether it’ s finding new ways that artificial intelligence can use data to simplify, improve and speed up decisions, or doing the rewarding work of training up the next generation of supply chain leaders, we can always be laying the groundwork for a better tomorrow.
Enjoy the read! Steve
